ANIMAL AND VEGETAL

In Camargue, cattle herders prefer the Provençal term "guardian" to refer to themselves. Through this word, an entire region and a way of life become apparent. Their white horses, the marshes, their pikes ending in tridents, and of course, the Camargue bulls, are all inseparable elements of this territory, rich in identity and traditions.

From the earth and animals humans have always sourced raw materials and transformed them for their purposes. Cowhides are tanned and become smooth leather. The bark of the cork tree is expanded through steam, forming a solid block by the binding of the sap. These two evocative processes, with their woody and smoky scents, remind our memory of the origins of the product and the enduring natural cycles.

GARDIAN LEATHER

Born from a collaboration with La Manufacture Paris, the Guardian stool exemplifies the concept of seating reduced to the utmost simplicity. The stool is inspired by the Camargue cattle-raising tradition. Its name comes from the term "Gardian," the guardians of the semi-free-range bulls or horses that use a "ficheiroun," a stick with a trident at its end for herding. The shape of the stool is inspired by the head of this traditional tool.

Our love of the original product and it’s more standard version, led us to create these limited editions that use natural, and tactile materials to the enhance the object’s original beauty referencing it’s origins and inspiration.

We’ve created 2 very limited editions of this stool, both evoke the agricultural world from which the Gardian originates. One version is made of black cork, a product of the land, essential to their herds. The other version is crafted from cowhide, to harken back to the Gardian's cattle, their livelihood.
